4 Ways to Beat Cold and Drowsiness

Clogged nose or headache with drowsiness? Follow these tips to stay productive, even when there's a deadline to chase and you're feeling under the weather!

Picture this: You’re ready to go through your to-do list or work on an urgent task to meet a deadline, but you find yourself dealing with a cold and experiencing drowsiness. On an ordinary day, this combo can be a disaster waiting to happen, but there are ways you can beat the odds and remain productive.

Stay on your A-game even when you’re feeling sick and sleepy by following these productivity tips. In no time, you can get the job done, and finish your tasks.

Tip #1: Stay hydrated.

Make sure to have a glass, mug, or tumbler filled with warm water nearby. Drinking water has always been recommended for people with a cold because it can help prevent dehydration, reduce congestion inside your body, and allow your body to slow and calm itself down as you move from one task to the next.

Other good choices include decaffeinated herbal teas, ginger and/or green tea, fresh juice made from citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, and grapefruits), water mixed with lemon or honey, coconut water, bone broth, or golden milk (turmeric mixed with milk).

Tip #2: Take short breaks from time to time.

When there’s an urgency to get tasks done, most people would try to do it all at once and/or as quickly as possible. However, this can be counterproductive because you’ll probably use up all your energy in one go, when you should be preserving it.

Try to take short and frequent breaks in between tasks to give your body time to recuperate, and ensure you have enough energy to go through your day.

Time management methods such as the Pomodoro Technique may help you incorporate breaks into your work routine. While there are variations of this method, the most common and widely-known version involves working for 25 minutes straight and then taking a five-minute break afterward, all to be continued throughout the day.

Tip #3: Know which tasks to work on and avoid distractions.

When there are multiple things on the agenda, it can get pretty overwhelming. To prevent this, try to take note of all the tasks that should be done, and prioritize them accordingly. Whether you choose to start with the easiest or the most difficult is up to you, but knowing what to work on can help you keep your eyes on the prize, as they say.

You can also increase your focus and be more productive by eliminating distractions. Here are some ways to do it:

  • Place your phone far from your workspace to avoid being distracted by notifications, or turn it off when you’re not expecting calls or messages anyway.
  • Hang a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door, if you’re working in your room and living with people.
  • Organize and declutter your workspace by taking out trash and having only your work essentials on deck.

Tip #4: Provide your body with relief, when it needs it.

Fatigue and drowsiness may be a sign that a cold is already coming. As such, it would be best to act on them right away. At this point, you should already consider taking medicine to manage your symptoms.

However, since you may be racing against time and against cold symptoms, Phenylpropanolamine HCl Paracetamol (No-Drowse Decolgen®) may be just what you need. This can help you combat colds, without causing drowsiness that can negatively impact your workflow.

Phenylpropanolamine HCl Paracetamol (No-Drowse Decolgen®) contains 25 mg of a known nasal decongestant in Phenylpropanolamine HCl that can help decongest blocked nasal passageways and sinuses and target postnasal drip. It also contains 500 mg of Paracetamol that can ease headaches and body aches, and reduce fevers that normally come with a cold.

Don’t let a cold and the drowsiness that may come with it stop you from performing your best. Power through the day despite these challenges.
